About the Jersey City ARTS Program
The Jersey City ARTS (JC ARTS) Program is a specialized program available to High School students enrolled in a Jersey City, NJ high school. JC ARTS provides extensive training in the following disciplines: Vocal and Instrumental Music, Piano, Visual Art, Digital Media and Drama/Theatre Arts. The Instrumental Music department offers four large ensembles and opportunities to perform in solo and chamber settings as well. Many of our alumni have received full and partial scholarship to four-year universities and have gone on to pursue careers in the arts.

David Luquette

David Luquette is Co-Director of Bands and Brass Specialist for the JC ARTS Band program, directing the Freshmen Band, Concert Band, and Brass Chamber Ensembles. He received his Masters of Music in Conducting from Southern Oregon University (Ashland, OR), his Bachelors of Music in Music Education (Trumpet) from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) and his Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington (Arlington, TX). Mr. Luquette is also the Artistic Director of the M.A.N.Y. Instrumental Music Program at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and performs regularly with the Ridgewood Concert Band. Mr. Luquette served as conductor for the SE Massachusetts School Bandmasters Association Band (2005) and Orchestra (2007). "I have been fortunate to see many of my students continue to be performers and teachers of music as well," says Mr. Luquette. "Nothing is more rewarding than to be involved in training the next generations of performers and teachers."
Larry Puentes

Larry Puentes is Co-Director Of Bands and Woodwind Specialist for the JC ARTS Band program, directing the Freshmen Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Woodwind Chamber Ensembles. Mr. Puentes received his Masters of Music in Composition from New Jersey City University, and his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Berklee School of Music with additional studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University and the United States Naval School Of Music. He has performed with the U.S. Navy Band and appeared on stage, screen, and T.V. with such legendary figures as Frankie Avalon, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Bob Hope, Cab Calloway, The Temptations and the Four Tops (just to name a few). Mr. Puentes also had the honor of performing for both President Nixon and President G.W. Bush. In addition to his duties at JC ARTS, Mr. Puentes enjoys a freelance career of performing, composing and arranging.
